The Ananse Stroke Foundation Corp. envisions a future where African children are not only taught to participate in the world, but are equipped and encouraged to imagine, create, design, and build within it.
Our work begins with education—reconnecting learners with African knowledge while introducing Ananse Stroke as a writing system through which a new generation can learn, communicate, explore, and create.

What Is Ananse Stroke?
Ananse Stroke is a West African writing system created by K. Ogyakra and grounded in West African cultural traditions, social structures, rules, and systems of knowledge. While its written characters are original, the cultural framework and symbolic relationships expressed through the system draw from African ways of organizing and understanding society.
The system is structured around interconnected letter families that carry both linguistic and cultural meaning. The bilabial family, represented by M, symbolizes the Queen Mother. The alveolar family, represented by N, symbolizes the King. The velar family, represented by G, symbolizes the Priest. The vowel family, represented by a C, symbolizes the People—open and free.
Through these relationships, Ananse Stroke connects writing and communication with African cultural knowledge, identity, community, and ways of understanding the world.
EDUCATION SHOULD DO MORE THAN TEACH US HOW TO FOLLOW.
For generations, African people have learned to read, write, work, and communicate through systems largely developed outside of their own cultural experience.
Learning from the knowledge of others is not the problem. Knowledge should be shared.
The challenge begins when generations learn to depend upon the systems of others without being equally encouraged to imagine, develop, and trust systems of their own.
The Ananse Stroke Foundation Corp. exists to help challenge that pattern through education.
We believe young people should encounter learning that develops not only literacy and knowledge, but also independent thought, cultural confidence, imagination, problem-solving, and the ability to create.
THE GOAL IS NOT SIMPLY TO LEARN A SYSTEM.
